My arms are hairy! And I'm trying to keep them smooth. But why do they become even more poky a few days after shaving?

shaving is just a temporary solution, it may be fast but like many ppl have mentioned, the hair on your arm becomes sharper and more obvious, which is not what you want (especially if u get cold and your hair sticks up :( ). waxing is good, but if your are very bothered by your hair, you can go for permanent hair removal. i have a friend who has hairy arms but she's totally cool with it, and we (including her boyfriend) tease her abt it all the time, good naturedly of course. it boils down to how much you let it affect you.

If you want to permanently get rid of your hair, try laser. After two treatments the hair is too fine to be noticeable. And shaving is not a good idea at all, because skin on your arms is thinner and you may be more susceptible to cuts. Use either waxing or an epilatory cream like Veet.

That's a myth. If you shave the hair, you're cutting it at or above the surface. When you cut a hair in half on your head does it grow thicker? No.
It's just sharper and it feels thicker.

It's not thicker, it's just sharper because the fine ends were cut off. Try Nair. It's painless and the hair will not grow back as fast.

Actually it doesn't. It just seems like it because hair is darker at the roots and the ends are blunt after shaving.

you should wax instead of shaving. After a few waxes, the hair grows smoother

You should use a depilatory, it makes your hair come back thinner.
