I think the US should stick to playing "American Football" and calling themselves world champions in their own country.

I agree.

They don't have enough passion and love for the sport. Every other team loves the sport and plays with passion. USA play because they are the "big country" in the world, everyone expects them to be good in everything.

I suppose I could begin by saying, yes the U.S. is new to Football. I started playing in 1978 and still play today. Of course, back then no one in th U.S. played or cared about "Soccer". Today, it is a different story. The U.S. team did not get ranked #5 out of pity or political influence. They just had a bad day, so did England (own goal win), Sweden and all the other losers. Had the U. S. won, the nay sayers would all be singing a different tune. This is all beside the point I want to make which this; perhaps we are new and inexperienced, perhaps it is not our "National Pastime", and perhaps for most of the U.S. they don't and won't pay too much attention to the World Cup. But don't be fooled, we are raising up and training players. We have the best and most organized youth programs in the world. In the U.S. everyone gets a chance to play unlike most countries, (some of which don't even let women in the stadium). So keep talking, and watching and I'll keep training and supporting U.S. Soccer and someday, sooner than later, it will all come to fruition.

"US Youth Soccer, a nationwide body with close to one million volunteers, administrators and dedicated coaches; as well as more than 3 million youth players between the ages of five and 19. US Youth Soccer represents the single largest member of the US Soccer Federation, the governing body for soccer in the United States."

I can agree that Americans lack culture, but I do believe that the football team made it to the 2002 World Cup quarterfinals. Which means they were one of the top eight teams in the world. So that's at worst 8th out of the 207 Fifa World Cup entries. So the other 199 teams should give it up too, or are you saying your teams rank should be based on your countries pride and culture? That's a real good ideal..every country can just have a giant pep rally and the Fifa president can vote on who performed the best and we don't have to waste our time watching all these great soccer matches. And we'll stop calling football soccer as soon as England stops calling shrimp "prawns". It's a shrimp for pete's sake. A prawn is much larger and half of them aren't edible.

First of all, the US was not given a spot in the finals, they had to play for it. Are we a team that is realistically winning? No, but things happen and the unreal is made real. In 2002 the US made it to the quarter finals, Korea made it to the semi finals, things happen that people don't think would have.

Right now the US is playing the little kid who wants to play with his older brothers. We want everyone to be wild about soccer, we want it to catch on like it has in almost every other place on the globe. It's a great sport and it is building popularity in the US. As much as most of the other countries like to think that we want to be in our own little world, the majority of US Americans want to be part of the rest of the world as a whole, and a lot of people are starting to see that soccer could help that happen by giving us something in common.

It's not like we have tried banning Europe from having American football, how bout teaching us the ropes world. Why don't you help us grow into the country that we should be? Love brothers; that's what this is about.

Too man American haters out here today. What you afraid of us or something? i love the fact that the US is in the world cup. They have a great team and can beat anybody in the world. They are better then England. the only problem about the game today was the fact they just had to play a team that was better then them. this is a sport for the WORLD to play and if if you can't take the fact that the US is in it then you need to look for another support because we Americans are moving up

nah, like the us was #5 in fifa standings before the world cup (the team is really that good). its just that they played the czech republic and the czech republic is a better team. the us is a schoolboy compared to veteran world cup nations who have been going to tourney after tourney since the world cup started. in a couple of years they'll really shock the world. but for now, they'll just have to go along for the ride. all it takes is for the us to beat a powerhouse, and for the mls to stop thinking its a credible soccer league and actively recruit players across the globe. when the mls starts recruiting players across the globe, that will only make homebred players get better.
