It's usually the Democrats who want to increase the minimum wage. The idea plays well, and it sounds good on the surface, but if you think it through, it doesn't really help.
Increasing the minimum wage affects all businesses, but mostly ones that pay minimum wage to some or all of their workers. It effectively increases their cost of doing business, which reduces (or maybe even eliminates) their profit margin. They have to recover that money somehow, and they do that by either increasing prices (which means that your money buys less of their product or service) or cutting cost (usually labor, as that's where the cost increase came from). Labor cuts mean that either hours are cut or positions are eliminated. It doesn't do you much good to get an increase in your wage if you get fewer hours or lose your job as a result, does it?

Total liberal thing to do. Not much difference between and republican and a democrat. The current minimum wage of 5.15 has been that way for 10 years, and the cost of living has gone up more than tenfold. I don't really care for trickle down economics. I don't think that is answer for this country.

Yes, if the interventionist goverment would stop interfering with free markets, business would finally be free from the bondage of regaultion. A minimum wage, like child labor laws and worker safety laws, impose an unfair and anti-American restraint on business practices. This keeps corporations from maximal profit levels and slows the pace of the economy, thereby diminishing the trickle of wealth down from the upper-class to the middle classes.
Truly, businesses need to be allowed to do whatever they want in their dealings with employees. Anyone who says government should prevent 8 year olds from working 90 hour weeks in unsafe conditions for 50 cents an hour is a socialist and should be stoned!

Both - but it will not help anyone. Higher minimum wage will just make employers cut back on employees. Putting people out of work & causing the rest of us to be looking for a salesperson or standing in line or paying higher prices. Try to go to school for higher paying job - there are many scholarships available to people trying to better their jobs. I think they will raise the min. wage - no one wants to be the bad guy, but there will be a cost. Simple economics. Employers are not lowering their profits.

Democrats want people making minimum wage to buy 4 bdrm colonials and own two cars. There is fantasy, and then there is reality. The Democrats just need to determine which world they want to live in.
So misguided, those Dems.
