7 yr old said "I dont think there is a santa" So I told him something but not sure if it was the exactly right thing.I told him that santa is kindof a feeling we get, like kindness, giving, love ect all wrapped into one. What are your thoughts?

Okay, first of all, Caramel's answer is just reprehensible.

"If he refuses to believe in Santa, you just don't need to buy him presents any more!"

As a good person, I can't say "go to Hell", but as an optimist, I can always hope for the best.

Look, let's make a long story short here. Santa isn't real (leastways not the way we tell children he is). We all know Santa isn't real, and while it's a cute fairy tale, the fact we tell children he's real when he's not means we lie to them... and congratulations, your kid just busted you. You can't punish children for that.

The "feeling we get" explanation works very well. Perhaps, though, since there is a bit of magic left to be squeezed out of things with a seven year old, you can sit down and tell your child the real stories of Christmas, about who Santa Claus was, and what he did for the children all those hundreds of years ago, and explain that it's so magical parents everywhere couldn't help but keep the spirit of it alive so he could continue to work his magic for all the children of the world he would have wanted to bring presents to long after he was gone.

Might bring a bit of magic you thought you'd lost, too. =)

If he does not believe in Santa he does not need 2 get Christmas presents anymore (this may seem harsh but...) when he believed in santa he thought santa brought the majority of his presents right? well now u dont have 2 get him as much. cuz if he's grown enough not 2 believe in santa he's grown enough not 2 get alot of presents. (just my opinion...)so yea tell him there is no Santa since he doesnt believe it anymore just say ur right santa isnt real. and thats it. it wont hurt him cuz he doesnt believe in him anyway.

I believe in telling the truth. Tell him Santa represents Christmas kind of like a mascot.

If the older kid was 7, how old are YOU? Are you 6? 5? 4? 3? JHC Almighty! I am trying to picture a 2-yr-old running a computer and I am coming up short...

Next thing you know it will be all 1-yr-olds on here.

I need a beer, dammit. I think I am losing my mind...

Ask him who he thinks Santa is or why doesn't think there is one. Let the kid do the thinking and confirm what is true in his assesment.
