they make little mitts or mittens for a newborn for precisely this reason...your local drugstore has them.

Either buy scratch mitts or file his nails (with an emery board...not a metal nail file). Why are you asking this question? Where is his mother? And why didn't the doctors and nurses at the hospital where she delivered tell her this??

DO NOT CUT HIS NAILS AT THIS YOUNG AGE. Babies' fingernails are still attached to the ends of their fingers right now, and if you attempt to cut them, you could nick him, make him bleed, and risk infection. Just file them with an emery board, keep scratch mitts on him, and he'll be fine.

There r baby fingernail cutters at Walgreens or any other drug store so take a look 4 that. But if push comes 2 shove you would have 2 put gloves on their hands so they won't scratch themselves.

What do you mean by too young to cut his fingernails? You can cut them. Or you can use baby mittens. There are shirts that are made with attached mittens that you can put over baby's hands (or fold back when you don't want them on).

Forget the mittens (they never stay on). However, if you're too jittery (like me) to use clippers, my pediatrician recommended using a soft nail file. Ever since I accidentally nipped my daughter with clippers, I've used the file. Works the best and it's really hard to mess up.

You can trim his nails at 8 days old. Try the Safety First Nail Clippers (carried at Target) and try doing it when he's asleep. They don't feel a thing and he won't be moving around.

They have nail clippers for babies that do not have sharp edges (in case baby jerks while clipping). I would recommend some by The First Years.

As for cutting nails...i think its better to ask your aunt or uncle cos some chinese they say cannot cut nail till they are one month old..
As for me.....trim off my children's nail when they are a few days old...

Put newborn mittens on him...I had the same problem with son. Also peel the tips of his nails off...it's like paper.
