First, the modem needs to be an Ethernet modem, such as DSL Modem or Cable Modem.

The computers need to have a network card installed.

You will need a router to connect the two computers to the internet.

If you are referring to DSL or cable internet, you need a Router.

I just set up wireless at my home with a desktop and laptop using a router.

Good luck.
