after selecting cut/copy in my windows 2000 pc and tries to paste the same in another area of the same pc, the PASTE button greyed. why it happens. how to rectify it.

Interesting question. Short answer is, "don't know", but you can do a test that will help you figure it out in your particular situation.

If you've copied something (assume text for this example), and cannot paste it into a particular application, run notepad and see if you can paste it there. If you CAN, it's an issue with the application you are trying to paste into and you have verified that the text was copied to the Windows buffer.

If it is something else like a graphic, run WORDPAD instead, it will accept text and graphics.

If when you paste into either of those applications it does NOT paste, go back to the page you copied the data from and do it again, you may not have copied it correctly.

From what you describe I don't think it's a particular issue with Windows 2000. I run Win2K on my work laptop and have not run into that issue, it's usually "user error". :-)

Click in the area you want paste to and press and V to paste it into that space.

sorry i dont have windows 2000 but i have windows xp.
