I'm planning on getting my nose pierced this Friday, but when I go back to work on Monday my boss might freak. There is nothing specific in our dresscode guidelines about piercings, we just have to look professional. I work in admissions for an online school, so I never "see" anyone face-to-face other than co-workers. What I'm wondering is, is there a retainer that I would be able to put in on Monday? (If my boss dissaproves, that is) Or will that be way too soon? I'd really hate to put a band-aid on my nose 8 hours a day!

I WEAR A REAL SMALL DOT STUD IN MY NOSE AT WORK. YOU CAN BARELY SEE IT.

i agree that you should ask ahead. if the penalty is getting fired and you get pierced anyway then it will be hilarious when you are jobless.
i wouldn't recommend you get your nose done. try a piercing that is non-visible. bellybutton and nipples are interesting/sexy choices. your nose will not have time to heal. on monday you'll have to remove the piercing and getting the retainer in may be much harder than you imagine. i had my nose pierced for two weeks when i pulled it out for a cleaning. in the thirty seconds it took to wipe down the stud and my nose the hole closed and i had to repierce. it was excruciating. after the six weeks of healing i was able to hide the piercing quite easily. just take an earring you don't like with the metal your skin can tolerate and break off the stick. put that in place of the ring and voila! you have a cheap retainer.
even if you never see customers your boss has the right to monitor your dress. please don't give attitude to your employer because you want to be "unique" or "an individual free of restrictions." that's a great way to get fired and rightly so.
save the piercing for a time when it makes more sense. by the way, i think piercings are great! i have quite a few myself. my nose was done in college but when it was time to make grown up choices i ditched the nose ring, opting instead for a JOB!

I think it really depends on where you're getting it pierced. For example, if you're going for the bull look, I think he'd have major problems. If you're going for the little stud in the side of the nose, he'd accept it more.

You should always play it safe. Ask your boss before you get it done. If he says it's a good idea, and that you will not be in trouble go for it. If he says no, then you should consider how important the nose ring is to you especially when it comes to your job.

You might add a new rule to your company's dress code Friday, tempted as I am to say you just have to rely on your sparkling personality to distract others from noticing.

Maybe you should look at the idea of belly button piercing....or some other place NOT seen by co-workers; both areas are exotic/expressive for your desire of body piercings--and you'll still make whatever statement of yourself you want to express.

I don't think there is a law against nose piercing. We have a lady working from India with her nose ring.........so, nobody can tell U not to do it...tell your Boss U just want to express yourself.....that's worked in the '60...

Just don't pierce your nose.I think piercings are only cool on your ears and not too much! It's better to keep your job than wear a band aid and taking it off and putting it back on would hurt if removable daily.

use the bristle[i dont know if that is the right word. im talking about the thing on a brush that sticks up and there are like 50 of them] of a brush and stick it thru the hole. that way he cannot see it, and it stays open! but be sure to sanitize the bristle before sticking it thru. then cover it up with some makeup and maybe it will just look like a big pore. haha. dont get up in his face, if possible, and ask him about it but dont say you have it yet. you dont really "see" anyone in person so i dont think it should be a major problem.

in my opinionnose rings are not very cute but hey its your chioce!

Try a pair of glasses with a fake nose attached. Maybe all they'll notice is the new glasses!

paint your piercing (im assuming it's not a ring) white and tell everyone it's just a big white head that won't go away! Good luck!
