Named after the infamous Jacques LeArmoire. Jacques was born with a birth defect that caused one arm to be shorter than the other. He went on to hockey fame in the amateur ranks in
British Columbia. When Jacques shot the puck at the goal the fans would stand in unison (similar to today's wave) and shout
"shoot that short handed goal." A legend was born and short handed goal became part of hockey vernacular.

That's when a team has a player in the penalty box and the other team has it's full compliment of players and the team that is "short handed" (as in they have fewer players on the ice) is able to score a goal.

If you're looking for a definition, a short-handed goal is one where a team scores a goal when they have fewer players on the ice than the other because one or more of theirs is in the penalty box.

when the other team has a power play and the team that is short handed meaning they only have 4 players and the other team has 5 players and the team w/4 players scores is a short-handed goal

OK it is when one team has fewer players on the ice and scores. You could be down to 4 players or maybe only have 3. If you have 3 and the other team has 4 it is STILL shorthanded to those who mentioned teh other team has it's full compliment.

Shorthanded goals are when the opposing team scores a goal when they are shorthanded a player.

what about it.

If you want to know what it is it's when your team has one less player (because someone's in the penalty box) and you score.
