I've done this SEVERAL times. Here's the best way without doing much damage and cost you less than $7...

There's a tac-strip - if you don't know what that is ask someone. Get a nail and hammer. Using the nail, pry (do not break) the tack strip from the wall - even if there's paint. Once you get an opening, pry it all the way off. Now you can pull the door towards you - this will release the anti-theft device on the lock shaft (it rests on the lock hole lip so that you can't open it with a card). Pull the door towards you as far as you can without too much pressure - place the card inbetween the lock shaft and the hole. Rocking the door a bit you should be able to easily get the card to temperarily hold the shaft open. Push the door the correct way and the shaft should slide on the card and over the hole opening the door. You will need to simply nail the tac strip back on with probably the same nails but in different positions (to make firm again). Get "One-timer" ($2.00) to fill in the pop holes and about a pint of paint (<$5.00) to paint the area again. The whole ordeal will cost you less than 7 bucks and is not hard to do at all. Good luck.

This is for those doors that have the little holes for those little wierd keys. If the screw heads are on your side of the door, you got it made, if you don't what i am about to tell u is useless, you take a screw driver and undo the screws on the door, make sure you keep it pulled towards you so the handle on the other side doesn't fall off, once you get the screws off take off the handle on you side, there will now be a black rod sticking out in the middle, in the center there is a little depression use a flat tipped screw driver and turn it, then put the handle back on and open the door

Short of breaking the door down, you might try prying up the wooden stop that is nailed to the door jamb on the side where the latch is. Once you have the stop off, the latch should be fully exposed and you may be able to just slide it back and open the door. It might be difficult to do this with the stop in place, but if you remove it the latch should be easily accessible. It is then a simple matter to tack the stop back up.

if this is a regular BR door lock then you can open it with a small screw-driver , if the lock has a push button then just insert the end of a clothes hanger in the hole and gently push , if the latch turns then you'll have to use a tool with a flat end ,( very small screw-driver ) insert it and turn the lock the opposite way than locks it

Do one of two things:

if it has a lock that looks like

....____....
/.............\
I......O.....I
\...____.../

Then you can take apart a pen and stick the tube that has the ink inside in the hole and push until you hear the lock pop and it should pop open.

If that does not work, you can pull the pins from joints from the other side of the door and take off the door altogether.

Then unlock it, then put it back on.

if you have a cheapo door knob, there should be a hole in the front of it. put a pin in it and turn the door knob. if it's not try a drivers licence or credit card or a bedroom window, unless you're high up.

# 3 answer is amusing, but if it is the kind of door with a small
hole in the knob you may be able to open it with the tip of an
ice pick or something simular. I have done that before.
