Usually when a guy or girl looks for someone like there mom or dad its because they are young and want there partner to be excepted by the parents

the cross-gender parental relationship usually tends to be stronger. Freud tried explaining this through his Oedipal theories that males would view another male baby as a competitor for his wife's affections, and females view a female child as a competitor for the male (though not as much). Plus, people are hard-wired to nurture members of the opposite sex.

As for dating people like their parents, I think people are used to havign someone fulfill a certain role. If a guy has a real commanding mother, he will subconsciously seek out a commanding woman because that's the sort of relationship he's comfortable with. Pair him with a more submissive woman, and it just wouldn't feel right.

It's pretty subconscious, but our parents are our blueprint for what the opposite sex is supposed to be and act like. So we often go for that sort of thing in a mate when we get older.

It's all Freudian concepts. You know, the Oedipus Complex, where you want to kill your father and have sex with your mother (if you're a little boy.)

O_o Kinda weird, look it up in a psychology book lol. Or Yahoo! Psychology or something ROFL
