While in Canada, vehicle accidents with moose and deer injure hundreds of people every year, and kill dozens, they are not the most dangerous animals in Canada.

Millions of people every year die from mosquito-borne illnesses such as malaria. However in Canada, so far the mosquito-borne West Nile virus was fatal for only about 20 people in 2003, and only 2 people in each of the last two years. So mosquitoes are not the most dangerous animal.

Cougars have killed only two people in the last decade in Canada, putting them completely out of the running as most dangerous animal. Even horses and cows cause more fatalities than cougars.

No, the most dangerous animal in Canada is probably 'man's best friend', the lovable dog. Estimates are upwards of 450,000 injuries caused by canines in Canada every year, and dozens of fatalities from dog attack. Most of these injuries are on children, and many of them are rendered by the dogs in their own family.

You are hundreds of times more likely to be killed by your dog than by a cougar.
