I would like to take a relaxing romantic vacation with my husband in October. It will be our 4 year anniv. Due to him being in the military, we've only had the chance to celebrate our 1st anniv. together. A nice sunny beach would be great. Not too expensive. 5 night stay in or outside the US. Not too sure about a cruise. Can't that get boring? It doesn't seem like it would be a private, cozy type of thing. Any ideas or suggestions would be a great help.

The Palma Real in Punta Cana....
The Dominican Republic is wonderful. We stayed at the Paradisus last winter and it was wonderful...the same hotel chain was just opening the new Palma Real and it's an amazing hotel. We are going back in November. If the Palma Real is a bit too pricey for you (it's worth the money though), try the Occidental Grand or the Paradisus Punta Cana. They are all all-inclusive hotels and offer a lot of activites and surprisingly good food! It's also nice to just pay one price and then have no worries!

If you want private but reasonably-priced, try Molokai. The least tourist-y and developed of the Hawaiian islands, Molokai has some areas of breathtaking beauty. The sheer cliffs and tropical river valleys are delightful to explore. The beach at Halawa is one of the most peaceful places I have ever been, and I have covered a lot of the planet. The Molokai economy is depressed and unemployment is very high because of the decline of the agricultural industry there, but that makes it even more affordable for visitors, you can rent houses on the beach very reasonably. The lifestyle is very mellow and the people are warm and friendly. Give it a try!

I recently stayed near Freeport, Bahamas. Port Lucaya resort. October would be a less busy time. We went in November-- great weather, and not very busy. The resort was very cozy and somewhat secluded from the more touristy areas (that were still not very crowded). Also, try to go during the week. Less expensive, and less crowded.

Cruises are actually very romantic. I didnt think so either until I went on one. I proposed to my wife on our second one. Cruises never get boring especially the cruise line that starts with Car. Dont take one if you like to have a lot of time on the beach and if you do take one get a balcony its definately worth it. Also the 7 nt. cruises are the bigger, better ships. Enjoy your vacation.
