I think these are the four standards thats set the stage for psychological horror movies and should be seen by anyone who wants to see a good horror movie. Which one do you think is the best of the four and why?

Dammmm this a tough question.
These movies are all very well done and get to you in different ways.
The Omen and Rosemary's Baby sort of fall into the same category. Your kid's the devil. How sick and crazy is that! But whats even sicker is that in Rosemary's Baby your husband's in on it! That's really f*cked up! The Shining crazy but more common than not. The Exorcist ..well it just really doesn't happen anymore therefore making it a bit more far fetch.
Rosemary's baby probably is the best one because Rosemary was all by herself...she didn't even have the support of her significant other because he was a loon along with the others. SOOO MESSED UP!

First of all The Exorcist is not scary or entertaining, besides the fact it was done by William Friedkin. Rosemary's Baby is a novelty and The Omen is just an AMC regular. The Shinning stands out like a giant in a carrot field. The shining set the standard for atmosphere, which nobody has lived up to since. The sound design in the film is the best and creepiest. The imagery inspired by the maltreatment of the native Americans is completely bold, stark and creepy. Jack Nicholson's performance! It was done by a legendary filmmaker (not to put down Polanski, but Kubrick has huge staying power in cinema history. and Friedkin will only be remembered for The French Connection.)

the shining!
but I've never seen all of the omen or rosemary's baby(only was watching the TV versions and couldn't deal with all of the cuts and commercials)
But I liked the shining better than the exorcist although the exorcist is a very good movie based on a true story.
Just about all of Stephen King based movies were good.
Carrie,Christine, Firestarter,CujoPet Semmetary,ect...

The Shining hands down, no question at all.

The others are good movies and all but they can't compete with the defining theatrical moment when the viewer finally finds out what Jack Nicholson is typing on the typewriter.

Oh yeah............... REDRUM!

Also.......... Danny's voice when he says "Sorry Mrs. Torrence... etc."

Scatman Crothers

The flashback scenes when Jack is talking with the bartender.

The bigwheel bike riding sequence.

The black and white picture (of the hotel staff) that includes Jack... mind blowing.

I could go on and on. Please tell me you feel the same?!

Exorcist. I saw it in a theater as a child. My older brother was able to get me in. When we left the theater, it was dark with a light fog. I was frigging spooked for weeks. I think I learned to sleep with both eyes open.
