Hi, Here's what I always pass along!
Wow...you're in for a treat! Wear good walking shoes because London is a superb walking city. Bring a good map of the city and begin. Be a happy tourist and first hop on one of the major red double decker tour buses which afford you a perfect overview of London and you can "hop on and off" as often as you please...some for two days! I love www.theoriginaltour.com ! Highlights (see www.londonwalks.com): National Gallery, Trafalgar Square, Tate Modern Museum, London Eye, Covent Gardens (great shops n restaurants), St. Paul's Cathedral, Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace, see a play!, Harrods, Harvey Nichols, Tower of London.
Know London has many beautiful parks which can be your oasis when needing a rest. Kensington Gardens in one of the world's wealthiest areas - See Princess Di's Kensington Palace and shop Kensington High St. and wander up Church St. for boutiques and such. Nearby: Royal Albert Hall, Science Museum, Natural History Museum and Victoria & Albert Museum. Hyde Park connects to Kensington Gardens. Explore Chelsea for boutiques as well. St. James Park - beautiful, sole restaurant inside. Green Park - high tea at the Ritz, Fortnum & Mason, Picadilly Circus (think Times Square). Shopping streets: Oxford, Bond, check for weekly markets...BUY "TIMEOUT LONDON" weekly magazine. Boat trip on the Thames - a must. Hope this helps. Have a fantastic time! :)

British Museum is a must and it is free. The London Dungeon is something teenagers would like, but it is a little pricey. I would suggest some of the London walks, very inexpensive, and they are great. I woudl suggest the Jack the Ripper. It is done at night where you go to all the sites a body was found and the guide gives the story and speculates as to who Jack the Ripper was. It was one of my fave things that I did while in London.

Theater in London is excellent; second only to Broadway. Take your teens there! They think they won't like it but they will.
Be sure to visit the Tower of London and experience British history first hand. The tour is incredible and to actually see the rooms where kings and queens lived is an experience they will never forget. They will see the spot where royals were beheaded (including a few of Henry VIII's wives) and the crown jewels which has to be the largest collection of gigantic precious stones anywhere. Visit Hyde park in Central London. By tradition people bring their soapboxes and talk about some of the craziest stuff imaginable. Be sure to argue with them, it's fun!
Learn a new language, it's not at all like American English, you may need a translator! Stop by Buckingham
Don't listen to people who tell you London is boring. You and your family will love it!

Madame Tussaud's (wax museum) would be enjoyable even for a teenage boy. I think there's also some kind of "torture" museum that they might like. Touristy option, but someone with even the slightest interest in the history of the city would enjoy the view from the top of a double decker tour bus. These buses can be used to get almost anywhere too, without having to negotiate the real bus routes and Train (tube).

Take a hop-on hop-off bus tour, you get to see many different areas and sites and can hop on and off the bus at any of their stops. Also the Original London Walks are good, especially the Jack the Ripper walk with Donald Rumbelow. This walk starts at the Tower Hill tube station, so if you decide to go to the Tower you can do the walk after.
