Well, I don't have a guy picked out yet. But I think family background would be somewhat important. The most important thing to me would be how well we get along and more stuff about him, not his family. I would hope that I would fit in with his family perfectly though.

EXTREMLY important
85% of people who divorce in 1st marriage are from family in turn from divorce ( women wise )
with divorce rate for the very young at 80%, and 65% from there after ( gradutating to about 42% for people on there 3rd marriage by the time they are 40's to 50's ).. any sort of mitigating factor you can use to swing odds of sucess in your favor is a good thing..
if not as one put it.. plan for failure and you be fine
as assumption that you be the few who stay married and you find you self in family court saying it happened to me..

I will tell you from experience on this one. Pay close attention to the parents and listen when they talk or any other time. Ask questions to the girl about her parents but be suttle about it.

I wish I had paid attention to the house that my ex-wife grew up in.

I am not going into detail. I can't do that. But it explains alot of the ex-wifes behavior that I have seen in the past 4 months from her.

well speaking from experience, i think family background is extremely important. i say this because my wife's mom was/is abused my her dad he also cheated on her. because of this, my wife looks at me as if I'm going to cheat on her at times...she also struggles with expressing herself due to be abused by her father.

its also good to find out family background because of health issues too. (diabetes, cancer, high blood pressure etc.)

its somewhat important but if you love this girl it won't really matter to you. as long as she loves you back. you will marry her not her family.

I don't think it should be a deal breaker - but you are marrying into her family, the same way she is marrying into yours. You don't have to live with them, but you are going to have to spend holidays with them and be civil with them.
