That is a no win situation. No matter what you do, you are not going to come out ahead. A bully doesn't listen to reasoning. Assertiveness doesn't work on a bully boss. I would advise you to quit that job and go somewhere where you may be respected.

I am in the same position. I am a director reporting to her. The only person she reports to is the president of the board. I thought if I would go to the president he would calm her down but it exacerbated the problem. She has been there close to 20 years and I think that they are just all good buddies. There is no reason for me to pursue his standing up for me anymore. I'm looking for work elsewhere.

I will tell you that when I worked for HR a few years ago, the best way to handle it was to go in with your head held high and document everything-time, date, quotes, who was around, etc. Purchase a small tape recorder. If it gets bad enough, you would want to put that in your pocket and make sure it is on voice activation and volume turned up loud while recording. You have to protect yourself.

Here is a great link to an article with advice for this situation (addressed to women but applicable to man or woman). God be with you. This isn't permanent, you have a choice and can eventually get out of there. Stay strong.

This must be your principal. As I said in the other answer, be sure that you keep documentation of his actions. Be sure that you have your i's dotted and t's crossed. As you prepare, stick to facts and try not to put opinions in. You may or may not find a teacher willing to go in there with you. I don't know if you are in a large system or not. You may want to contact the personnel director of the district and tak to them.
As I said in the other message, be sure that you are a member of your state's professional organization. You can contact them for advice.

A good principal knows that you work with teachers. You don't hire them to fire them.

Act crisp and respectful but not butt-kisser-like. Maybe after a while he will warm up to you and stop acting like a bully. (You could possibly even get a promotion.)
