IF they are sharing a router or a wireless router, I can help you configure a network so that you can basically access the other computer's folders without even having to do anything else except drag it over.
If you need help , just contact me.
The other annoying but hard ways is to get a CD (if you have a CD burner) and just backup all your data that you want copied over and burn it into a data CD. Then you can just put the CD in the other computer and access your files that way.
Another way is to store ALL your data into a free storage file online. You can go to http://www.xdrive.com and you can upload ALL your programs and files into that free storage online. Then you can just go to your other computer, go to the website and download everything as if you are downloading files.
Whichever way is best for you.

Actually your not supposed to copy the program files!! Coz it may not work coz the registry values must have changed. If so you wanna to copy then try Norton Ghost.. Its a software where you can make a backup of your hard disk onto a file. Just burn the file into a CD/DVD and restore it in your LAPTOP. Be care full while doing this coz it may corrupt your operating system!!!!

I just went to Radio Shack and bought a USB to USB cable with a cd program for copying files. It cost me about $40. I got all of my songs for my IPOD, but I had to re-install the program from the original disc. I am pretty new to this, but it seemed faster than using bluetooth or infrared ports. Depending on how much you want to copy, you could use a flash drive or a DVD (if you have a burner). Good Luck!

I think you can use the thumb drive for your USB to transfer files between your computers. Thumb drive is just like a floppy drive that connect to your USB and you will see a drive icon on your My Computer.
Another way is that you buy a USB network cable connect your Laptop and computer that form a small network, then you can transfer files between them. But you require some configuration on your computer..
Good luck.

well there are many ways...
you can make a cd...but if you dont have cd writer drive then forget it!
you can do that via bluetooth but you need some hardware
similarly, infra red will also solve the proble, but again you need hardware.
if you have a pen drive(also called usb drive) you can transfer you data to it and then connect it to your lap the put it thare.
if you dont have any of the above stuff...then try connecting you pc and the laptop via lan...but again you would need data cable.
so, if you would buy something, consider buying cd writer (or a dvd writer, if you transfer a lot of data) otherwise, use drive is good since, it is one time spending...also take care you purchase higher capacity pen drive.

Take your pick:
Wireless Network (requires network connection and wireless card).
Email (a slower method though good for small files)
Ethernet Connection (also a network connection, though requires a cheaper ethernet cable)
External Hard Drive (an expensive method to transfer high amounts of data)
CD - RW (a very cheap method to transfer high amounts of data, though both computers must of CD-RW drives.

One way is to use a crossover cable through both computer's ethernet ports. You can also convert your hard drive of one into a temporary external drive and use it on a USB slot and then put it back in the system it came out of. You can also use a memory stick or media card (if you have a mdia card reader on the one you intend to transfer to).

Burn to Cd if you have a burner in the "source" machine.
or
If both machines have network interface cards, you can get a crossover cable and network them (or use a hub and regulare cables).
Both machines need to have the same workgroup names and the target needs to have the hard drive shared.
Have your geeky buddy help you out with the details.

If you are connected to a LAN use the LAN. It will be the fastest a least complicated. If you are not connected to a LAN use a Crossover cable. It is still 100Mbps via ethernet but no router\switch or hub.
