Does it start up ok?
You may have a bad interlock switch - the switch that tells the transmission lock that you are stepping on the brakes. Could be either at the brake pedal or at the transmission (interlock solenoid).

Well, first of all, you purchased a Pontiac. Good Looking Car. Terrible after the first 100,000 miles. Take it to the shop, get it fixed, and then sell the thing, and buy a Chevy.

Check the shift cable in the console make sure it is disengaging when you turn on the ignition switch.A$16.00 Haynes manual will tell you how to do it and replace it if need be.Good Luck!

Its probably the switch on the brake pedal, its either bad or needs adjusting.

make sure you press th ebrake before tryign to shift, soudns stupid but i know people who forget little things like that
