As I read some of the answers on here I was absolutely appalled. Do people in this Country have NO HUMANITY? First let me say that all sex offenders are God's Children, just as all non sex offenders are. God forgives. God loves all his children and he knows all his children will make mistakes. As a matter of fact, any one of you people who are hate mongers, could very well be a registered sex offender at the blink of an eye! You have no idea the many different things that will put one on the registry. Did you ever go to the bathroom and forget to lock the door? Then little Suzy walked in. Guess what you committed a sex offense. Little Suzy tells little Janie and then little Janie tells her Mommy and her Mommy thinks that is appalling and calls the police. Yes this DOES HAPPEN. I work with rehabilitated former sex offenders everyday.

Now something I would like for you to do. Send me links to my email amber_leaf1957@yahoo.com of ONE child or more if you can find them being sexually assaulted in a Shelter by a registered sex offender. I have been unable to find even one. There were some rapes during Hurricane Katrina, but those all proved to be by gang members. So make sure you tell your state you want gangs to be kicked out of shelters. Oh yeah, and don't forget about that drug dealer/user. He might like to get your kid hooked on drugs. Perfect opportunity for him don't ya think? Oh wait, I forgot about the murderer. Watch out for him/her. Oh that is right you can't they don't have to register. Don't take any valuables with you as there may be a burglar or two there.

So you protect yourself from all these other people. YOU state sex offenders have no right to a shelter. I wonder if God thinks you have a right?

I must respond to the comment made by goldeneyez. I am a registered sex offender and I did not do anything horrible to a child. I had "inappropriate" communication with an undercover officer via the internet. The undercover officer initially stated she was 18 years old. According to the documentation provided by law enforcement, after 3 e-mails, she stated she was only 15 years old. She was sending so many e-mails it was impossible to read them all so I would look at the most recent and I missed the e-mail where she stated she was 15. After about a week, I did read an e-mail from her in which she stated she was 15. At that time I told her we could no longer communicate. Two days later I was arrested at my home while mowing the lawn. A very dangerous thing to be doing if children are around I guess. I was convicted and sentenced to 10 years probation and must register.

Oh, spare me that long diatribe answer on what God wants to forgive, you the one using this forum to advertise your B.S. on this subject.

.I understand that you want to be with your family. You are a victim of your own self.

How many sex offenders would you rally around so that they would be protected from a hurricane, and spend numerous days, shoulder to shoulder with your daughter?

Since you didn't mention the degree of your offense, one can only assume the highest. God has nothing to do with hormones and sexual fantasy.

What this means is you are forced to gear your life according to the laws that are in place to protect those who would be considered at risk if placed with you.

Unfortunately some offenders are very young, and have made poor choices, and associate with the wrong age group. In the end, all offenders are branded in one way or another. You have to come to grips with this fact.

Sleep in a raft, wear a vest, stay cool. Get the hell out of Dodge, as the old Cowboys say.
Oh, can't move around?
Well, I do have a heart. However, I have seen Video footage of "Rehabilitated Sexual Offenders" with electrodes attached to their genitals, viewing a movie screen, with a young girl clad in an undershirt. Well, the tent rises my friend.

I have also worked with incest survivors, their cells can't seem to let go of the trauma. Seriously, I wonder why you question something you already must have confronted many times..

Peace be with you .

no it does not seem fair but you also need to understand the other parents point of view. What I would fight for if I were you is a separate shelter. But that might be hard seeing the already outstanding response this great administration has displayed. Or just meet up with family later and watch the debris.

Was it fair that you did something to an innocent kid? I don't know the circumstances surrounding your situation, but think of it this way: Would you want a known sex offender sleeping in the same room as your daughter?

If you are a sex offender, then yes, it seems fair. You shouldn't be around children and hurricane shelters would be full of them. Sorry, but that's reality.

Since you are in a small space with alot of people, including children, it would be very uncomfortable and dangerous for those people. I really wouldn't want to be trapped with a sex offender. They already have a hurricane to deal with. They shouldn't have to deal with you if something should happen.

Fair? Yes, I think it's fair. You are a sex offender. How fair was it for you to molest, rape, violate or whatever you did to your victim(s)? As part of the punishment for your crime, you are to be identified as a sex offender and prohibited from certain privileges...this is evidently one of them.

It is a genuine shame that your daughter must suffer because of this. But it is no one's fault but your own. You should have thought of the consequences of your actions before you broke the law. Your daughter will have to pay for your mistakes.

Would it be fair for young boys and girls be stuck in a small and chaotic place, completely vulnerable to a sex offender?

We all pay for the mistakes we made in the past. Maybe you should have your own storm shelter installed in your house if you are worried.
My wife and I have one in our house

Sure it's fair....once a sex offender, always a sex offender. It's not like you can turn off the desires in your brain!
