There are two reasons I was raised on:



1. When you sneeze, every function in your body stops for a split second. Even your heart.


2. When you sneeze, the old wives tale was that a bit of your soul was expelled from your body.

This originated during the 14 hundreds? during the "Black Plauge".

When people sneezed, one of many syptoms of the plauge, they were assumed to be infected and were then going to die. People said "god bless you" as sort of a prayer/good wish/ goodbye thing.
