I'm a long time Democrat and I say, yes the party is getting more liberal than most of the normal members of the party would like. Too many people in the party shooting off their mouths and saying radical messed up negative things on just about every other topic, especially the war, just for their own political agenda, and not for the agenda of the mainstream party members, who are the majority of normal hard working folks like you and I in the party...

I am a Republican and here is my $.02. I don't know what Democrats want from their party. I am probably much older than the average person responding to questions on Yahoo, but most liberals that respond to questions on here seem very angry and hate-filled. I don't remember a time in my life when people were so full of hate, the conspiracy theories, name calling etc. I can't really answer your question, not knowing what they want but I will say that if what I see on here is any indication, it's a pretty disappointing party. There is never a positive comment, I've not heard an idea, it's all negative about President Bush. He is one person and though you don't have to agree with him or like him, what I see coming from the left is total disrespect for the man and the office of the presidency.

I'm a conservative, but here's what I think. Compared to Bill Clinton, the leaders of the Democratic party are moving to the left. Bill Clinton was great for the Dems because he was an average American - he was intelligent, likeable, liberal (but not ~too~ liberal to scare off the moderates!), and wasn't born with a silver spoon in his mouth. The average guy could connect with Bill Clinton. But the blue collar union family in Michigan can't connect with Hillary, or Pelosi, or Kennedy. And the Democrats who they can connect with (Lieberman, Bayh, Gephardt) get ripped by their own party, which just confuses them.
Republicans can use scare tactics like "do you want Pelosi as Speaker of the House" to get people to vote Republican. The Democrats have focused so much on President Bush that they can't credibly say "we need to get rid of Dennis Hastert".
The Democrats need one or two moderate voices in their leadership to show people that they are not a far-left party for the wealthy in NY, CA, and MA. Ed Rendall (PA governor and former DNC chair) would be great - but he ruffled some feathers as DNC chair so he's fallen out of favor. But he's similar to Bill Clinton - self-made, state governor (not federal government), likeable but intelligent - and could win over a ~lot~ of people. But without the moderate voices, it's easy for people to see the DNC as far to the left, and while that may help with fundraising, it'll be a tough sell for the average moderately liberal family.

Hillary, Boxer, Moore, Pelosi, and Kennedy may all be Democrats, but they all have their own opinions. They are five examples of, perhaps, liberl or very liberal minded people, but they're just five examples. There will always be conservative, liberal, and in-between candidates. But we all Michael Moore anyway :)

In a word, yes. Plus the fact that they can't seem to win an election (because of their left-wing stance) has put them into a tailspin that they need to recover from fast. They like to finger point and tell what is wrong with everything but they never seem to have any solutions. They like to call moderates and conservatives "red staters" and "red necks" and show their disdain for the majority of the country as "fly-over country" all the while further alienating themselves from the majority. They make bold social statements like nominating Hilary Clinton for president (just wait and see) instead of doing what needs to be done and go into a general election with the notion to win.

Of course they don't stand for anyone but themselves. I am confused, though about Moore. Who said he knows anything. He is a movie maker. You are comparing unlike sets here.
Conservatives don't know anything about what the Democratic Party is doing, either. You don't go to a dentist to have your heart checked. So you don't go to Republicans and ask them to check out the Democratic Party, either.
The Democratic Party can die and go away, but Republicans don't have anything to say about it if and when that happens. Conservatives, when they say things like you are saying, are sending the same ludicrous message that the Democrats are; that you are intransigent, self-absorbed and looking at your neighbor's bad lawn when you haven't mowed your own.

Absolutely Yes! Lately in more and more issues they are extending their understanding of freedom too far. Doing so they do not help the American nation but only make things worse. Freedom and liberalism yes, but within reasonable limits, to keep the nation as a whole intact and in accord with ideas BEHIND the American Constitution and the understanding of the American way of life!

The Democratic party lost touch with reality so long ago most of us don't remember them ever being in touch with reality. They held power within the beltway for so long that they will do or say anything to regain that power. Their behaviour over the last six years indicates how little they even acknowledge the needs of the American people.

I particularly like that they empower Moore, Boxer and that guy who is their party chair? Can't remember his name...you know the screamer?
Anyway watch Hillary run as far away from these fanatical leftist as she can...no way she wins the white house running from left field...she'll try to play center and even supposedly peeve some of her "base" to make a point...classic BJ stuff.

No, I think it's pretty much staying the same. Just the opposite, the republican side is becoming too conservative(if that's what you call it). Maybe it just seems like it to you cause when one party get's out of control and the other stay's the same there's a bigger differance...

They would be taken far less seriously except for the fact that they are pushed to the front of the democrat party. They are not just fringe politicians, but appointed to prominent positions. That makes you think the whole party leans that far.
