The law says that you have to report if the person is being abused, is abusing someone, or is abusing themselves. At least that's what I have to follow...

Yes, I've heard that but I'm not sure it's true.
However, letter of the law aside, It would be very prudent to call the police and make a report about it.
God forbid something bad were to happen to you, at least they would have a prime suspect right off the bat.
I would seriously also recommend that if your patient is threatening you, Stop seeing him or her immediately.
Also, if your a psychologist, you are allowed to carry guns in most instances with a concealed gun permit. Check your state and local laws.
If by chance this is not a doctor asking this question. But a patient. Then why would you want to hurt the one person that's trying to help you out in life? It doesn't make any sense, unless you've stopped taking your meds.
In which case run don't walk to the medicine cabinet, get a glass of water, and take your meds. Now!

Its called the Terrasoft Law and I may have mispelled it; my wife is the counselor not me.
It states if you threaten yourself or someone else a counselor is required to notify authorities.

Laws are by jurisdictions, have no idea of your jurisdiction or as far as that goes, your country.
