it is their nature ,in the wild birds are a part of their food supply,
and they are built for it .their nails have a good grip on the bark of a tree.and it is the place they run too for safety.
lions sleep in trees .also for safety
leopards eat in trees, they take a whole antilope high up and wedge it between branches, so that they can eat in peace ,far away from the hyenas,
so that are the reasons ,food and safety

it is something that are in their genes to automatically make them want to jump up in high places. And trees is something a cat can get a grasp on.....as well as trying to get that "snack" for themselves as well.

maybe because of the way they can trim their claws on the bark, maybe they feel like the bark feels like dog, lol ^_^ but really, poor dogs:( they also like high places.
