I'd go with San Francisco or San Diego.

Nothing against L.A. (which unlike many others it seems, I freely admit I feel favorably towards), but I also think it's a much more difficult place to break into (any artsy field) for a new person. If it has anything to do with design/art/entertainment, there are already a million people in L.A. doing it. And it's difficult to compete with the industry establishment in L.A.

San Francisco and San Diego does not have that strain, allowing for less stress and more risk taking possibilities. But they're also extremely wealthy cities, and the folks there are certainly chic enough to appreciate good design.

Stay away from Los Angeles. The climate in San Diego is better than in San Francisco.
Try to live near La Jolla.

I grew up in Huntington Beach, OC and it was wonderful. However, I think it has changed alot since then. I LOVE San Diego! Beautiful! My daughter-in- law went to the Fashion school in San Francisco and then transferred to LA. I really think she preferred San Fransisco better. It all really depends on what you are use to or ready to take on. Good luck in your decision! Whatever you deside I wish you all the best!

san diego or san fran, i was born and raised in san fran, weather not as good as southern cali, but it's way easier to get around without need for a car and better on your wallet too if you're a student, people from all over the world come to sf cuz it's your home away from home.

The City (SF) but I would consider living over at San Jose Or Alameda due to the City's high cost of living
