First off hamsters can't talk and secondly take him to a vet. The cat might have done something to him you don't know about, what ever the cat may have done could have metally bothered him and that could be why he's afraid. Hamsters are related to Mice and rats in the wild, cats, birds of prey and other meating animals bigger then them, are enamies. So in some cases I guess it would be considered normal for a rodent to fear an animal that may scare them or did something to them that caused them to become fearful.

The problem is, the hamster is related to the mouse, from which, he has heard many tails of the cat hunter. I don't know where you could get him to talk to a counselor...the bedroom or the dining room either one would work. Where is he most relaxed and open to new ideas?

Sounds like the hamster is smarter than you are...keep the cat awAy from him and you won't need a counselor.
