is there a way to adjust the transmission so it will not have a big clunk when it goe into forward gear?

this is a golf car. Yamaha two stroke gas engine.

It may not be the transmission. Check the drive shaft that goes from the trans. to the rear end. If you can grab it and move it by hand, you may have a bad U-joint or joints. Otherwise check the level of lubricant in the transmission...on that particular type I am not sure if it uses trans. fluid or a heavy gear lube. Check the owner's manual.
