Bad news and controversy sell better unfortunately even if the writers have to exaggerate to make it sound worse than it actually is.

Because "good" news is boring. Do you really want to read about the sixth-grade winners of the "I Love America" essay contest? Also, most "good" news isn't news at all. "Joe Bloggs got up and went to work today, and made the big sale!" "Nobody got shot on the steps of City Hall today." Snore.

Read the Sports section for man's accomplishments 1st, then read the front page for man's failures.

Two mainstream media maxims: one, if it bleeds, it leads. Two, sex sells. This is why you'll find copious amounts of either on the front page.
