I've worked with kids for a long time and for the first time i'll be working with middle school teens in a summer program. I want to be able to teach english overseas with teens and kids but this summer will be my first challenge in working with teens in a summer program. What ways are effective for me to build good relations and friendship but also be the Person In Charge

I worked as a middle school teacher... First, you must listen to them, and understand that they act crazy and do stupid things because they are learning about life and they are going through so many changes. Explain to them that they have the right to be heard, but for that they must SPEAK, and not yell since as soon as they begin yelling adults will not listen. Make them think about their actions!
Teenagers overseas might be easier to work with, since American kids... are spoiled. GOOD LUCK!

Smile, show interest, learn names. I used to know teachers who made card files with students' interests, favorite books/movies, etc. You could center some of your lesson plans around those. Use lyrics from popular songs if you are teaching poetry devices.

I'm a teen so I can probably help you. Be nice to them but at the same time let them know that your the boss and let them know that they can come and talk to you about anything.

Listen, Listen, Listen!!!!!! Seem interested, but don't pry. Have good advice but don't lecture! Give them respect and privacy. But demand the same in return.
