The Democratic National Committee removed a section of their platform explicit supporting the death penalty in 2004. Thus, while not supporting it in an official sense, the national Democratic party does not oppose the death penalty. However, many Democratic leaders such as John Kerry oppose the death penalty, while President Clinton supported the death penalty.
Wisconsin has not had the death penalty in over 150 years, and the State Democratic Party of Wisconsin opposes it.

I am a registered Democrat. And I am a firm believer in it. It cost to much of the tax payers money to keep one man in jail indefinitely.. And if we cant kill them then they should be sold to Med lads where they can be injected with cancer and aids. Let then become the Guniepigs. The the Med research fund can pay for them. So we the working class don't have too.

Democrats, for the most part, are against the death penalty. However, most Democrats are also for abortion. So, if they really want to preserve life, why not in both cases?
