I was raised on St. Croix and I have never seen a snake. That is because of the mongoose they eat snakes. As far as bugs mosquitos are sometimes a pain but as far as I can remember it is usually during the rainy season.

I lived in St. Thomas for 19 years and I know there is only one snake [from the boa family] and the maximum length is about 12 inches. Most of them are like 6 inches and they do not bite.
The Dutch brought over mongooses to kill all the rats but they wiped out the snakes instead. Word! there are no snakes to worry about...that is so cool... like ..no worries mate.

As far as mosquito's go they are there.
Mostly around standing water.
In time your body will build up an immunity to any reaction.
They seem to like fresh meat, so to speak but soon they leave you alone.

I do not believe in the poison liquid splashed on my arms and such to ward off the bugs.

Plus if you chose to live on the north and east coasts of any Virgin Island you have the Easterly Trades. These are daily winds of 12-15 knots which will blow the bugs away from you.

The virgin Islands are very much worth it as a place to live. Much beauty and the ocean is wonderful, healing and healthy.

Enjoy and good luck
