I like the guy but he's an idiot and screwed his team over.

Even if the accident wasn't his fault, he was selfish for putting himself in that situation not wearing a helmet. He should cry out to his teammates for forgivenenss

It's a little of both for me, but mostly, I think that anyone that gets on a motorcycle without a helmet is a bloody moron. It just doesn't make sense. One of the funniest or stupidest things I often see is a biker wearing leather chaps and a leather jacket and no helmet. So, if he has an accident, his legs and torso may not be chewed up by the pavement, but his head may be ripped off in the accident. Somehow this makes sense to people. For Big Ben, it makes even less sense because it could cost him millions of dollars. What a stupid, senseless and selfish act. I hope someone slaps some sense into him, well, after his jaw heals, I mean.

I lean to the latter. The only reason I don't call him a complete idiot is that, well, he's in his early 20s, and I don't care how mature you think you are at that age, you are going to make some pretty bone-headed decisions at times. Unfortunately, the only way some people learn about motorcycle safety is just like Ben did. Of course, it will affect him more than it will Joe Average because he happens to be a starting QB in the NFL, so naturally he will get more scrutiny (media and otherwise) as a result of this. Do I feel sorry for him? Not really. The man will be able to pay the doctor bills just fine, and after all, he did know the risks.

I'm a Steeler fan and I feel really sorry for him... but at the same time I still think he is an idiot for not wearing his helmet. It's really ironic because pretty much all of his injuries could have been prevented had he been wearing his helmet. Just because the state doesn't require it doesn't mean it is smart to go with a helmet. Luckily he will be ok... I hope he learns his lesson.

the guy is what? 23-24 yrs. old? regardless of his career he's a young guy who lives in the u.s. and deserves freedom. you have to give him a break, he didn't do anything wrong, he had an ACCIDENT! He does have a career and he did sign a danger clause, but i don't think riding a motorcycle constitutes danger and there is no law saying he has to wear a helmet. Keep in mind that regardless of his career he is still a careless kid. Why don't we all just hope he recovers well and not beat him up over an accident. who's to say the helmet wouldn't have done worse damage or not helped at all.

He is NOT an idiot for many reasons. Pennsylvania law doesn't require you to wear a helmet. He was riding on city roads probably maxing out at 35 miles an hour. Who do you think you are calling him an idiot? Are you always perfect??

i have been a steelers fan since i was 4 so i think that he did the wrong thing going out there and riding. I dont think he should have been riding with or without that helmet. I also feel sorry for him because he is my favorite player and it wasnt his fault. I hope that he fully recovers soon.

He's an idiot for not wearing a helmet and so is any other motorcycle driver who does not wear one. Superbowl QB or not, anybody on a motorcycle should have a helmet on.

No, he's an idiot. Sorry, but it seems fairly inconsistent to give tickets out to people in their cars without seat belts on, but then allow motorcyclists to ride without helmets on. Either both or neither, people.

Both - but not wearing a helmet is virtually suicide. He assumed the risk of not wearing a helmet and lost.

I do hope that he comes out of this OK..I can't say that he is an idiot but he is an adult and knew the consequences of making such a bad choice. Hopefully, he has learned from this horrible mistake!
