No, ECW along with all professional wrestling is not real and also the performers no longer attempt to pretend that it is when they are not "in character". As the previous poster replied, many of the injuries are real. Many of the performers are very talented athletes but the story lines and many sequences of moves are scripted. Depending upon the talent of the individual performer, often the punches and kicks, etc really are connecting.

Wikipedia has a long and interesting article on professional wrestling that explains its origins in traveling shows that featured traditional amateur wrestlers. As you'll read in the article, the beginning of televised wrestling put an end to what some people would prefer to call "real" wrestling, because television audiences wanted (and expected!) more excitement in the matches.
You'll also read that the WWE, headed by Vince McMahon, owns and operates the revived ECW league. McMahon may play a buffoon on television, but he is, of course, an extremely savvy businessman in "real" life, and he purchased the rights to the name and the talent of the failed ECW a few years back.
McMahon has formerly acknowledged that the product that he offers is staged entertainment. In a 1997 appearance on Monday Night RAW, McMahon famously announced that he would "stop insulting fans' intelligence", and directly stated that his programming was an "action-adventure" series, rather than a sport.
Professional wrestling is "simulated", meaning that the outcome of every match is predetermined, and intended to further an ongoing storyline. It is important to note, however, that the nature of the performances are incredibly grueling - there's nothing fake about the strength that it takes to pick up and throw 300 pound opponents, and when bodies that big begin to fly around a ring, injuries, and even quite serious injuries, are extremely common.
The wrestlers have been trained to "fall" as safely as possible, and the power behind many of the "blows" is given the appearance that it is far more forceful than it actually is. Props, which are one of the trademarks of the ECW - folding chairs, tables, "foreign objects - are not always what they appear to be.
It's also true that most of the "bleeding" in wrestling is real. The wrestlers cut themselves, or others, with small concealed razors - so a veteran wrestler is certain to have quite a few scars.
So to answer your question - wrestling is 'real' in the sense that a lot of strong and powerful men are acting out dangerous sequences of athletic moves and gymnastic performances in a ring. It's also 'real' in the sense that some of the performers probably don't really get along - and it's probably easy to see that in some of the interaction between different wrestlers. Professional wrestling is not real in the sense that it's more of a choreographed performance, with a pre-determined outcome, than it is a sport. The winners and losers are known in advance - and all of the 'important' wins or losses are intended to further a storyline that the promoters believe will bring in more crowds and sell more tickets, merchandise, television commercials and pay-per-view buys.

More hype, very athletic 230 plus pounders but studio athletes never the same. Look for a bleed over as they are all WWE properties.

depends what you define as real. If your asking about all the injuries and cuts and bruises, then yes, it is real. If your asking if some of the punches and kicks they throw, than no. There are some aspects of wrestline on television that is real.

No If anyone got hit with a piledriver on a chair or any other dangerous move than they would die and the other wrestler would be sent to jail for murder.
