I am looking for advice on how to get my 10 week old on a better schedule. Its not too bad now, but would like his naps during the day to come easier. He eats about 6 oz every 2 1/2 to 3 hours. The only place I can get him to take naps are his bouncy chair or swing. He does good at night goes down about 9 ( but have to rock him all the way to sleep) sleeps until 3 or 4 eats and then back down until around 7. Does this sound like its going ok? Would like to get him to fall asleep on his own.

yes this sounds like it going great. good job mom!! i have 3 daughters and their sleep schedules were all sparatic and eventually things just kind of balanced out. try swaddling the baby if the weather isn't too warm, or if you have air conditioner. does the baby take a pacifier, that always helps. the only way to get him to sleep on his own, is literally that, on his own. Feed him, change him, burp him, make sure he is nice and warm (the swaddling thing is good, but he may be getting too big for that), hug him, kiss him and sing to him, then you will just have to put him down on his own. this may be hard for you, it was definetly for me. so if you really want your babe to sleep on his own, put him down, let him cry for about five minutes, comfort him, but don't pick him up, then leave and continue this with the minutes increasing in 5's each time, (5 minutes, 10 minutes, 15 minutes, etc.)

got it?? good luck mom!!

Really, he's not even 3 months old yet -- and around 12 or 14 weeks old, they can learn to sooth themselves to sleep -- but anytime before that age, they still need the comfort touch from mom - it's very important.
As for the feeding sched. - that sounds fine. He should be eating often - 2-3 hour time gaps in between
He's probably falling asleep during nursing or a bottle, but when he hits that 3 month stage, you can keep him awake during feeding, then rock him until his eyes are very heavy, and he's almost asleep --- that's when you put him in the crib..
He'll probably fuss for a bit, but go in every 5 minutes.. don't pick him up, but pat his back or soothe him however you do - let him know you are there. Eventually he will go to sleep -- and the first few days may be a struggle, but after 1 week, you will see huge improvement on how quickly he puts himself to sleep, or finds ways to entertain himself in his crib until he falls asleep.. Then, believe me, you won't have to deal with the problem 1 year later.. So, do it early, but not too early -- your baby still needs you, and you have the opportunity to enjoy these precious moments, because they will be gone before you know it. ENJOY!!

Sounds like a great schedule. I would have loved that schedule with my son. He was still waking up every 3 hours at that age.

As long as he seems to be happy with all his needs met (he's not hungry or overly sleepy and cranky), don't worry about it. He has a lot of things to learn and with a little help he'll be able to start falling asleep on his own. Don't worry too much about it right now. 10 weeks is still really young and if he needs you to rock him to sleep right now, go for it.

It is not *normal* for a baby to fall asleep on his own. He spent 9 months being rocked and walked to sleep. He is still completely dependent on you--for food, for transportation, and for help falling asleep, too.
