It is called a light caustic. Caustic curves can also be made by sewing wool through holes in cards, Take a circle, punch 20 holes along the circumference, then sew hole 1 to 2, hole 2 to 4, hole 3 to 6, holes 4 to 8 etc. you end up with the same curve that you saw in the glass of milk. It is called a Cardiod Curve

Just a coincidence. I've seen "shapes" formed on top of milk too. I think it's just the top most layer of the milk that kind of separates and sits on top.

it's the light refracting through the glass; it isn't the milk. same reason you see shapes of light when it travels through a magnifying glass onto the ground.
