A certificate for shares of capital stock was issued to my grandfather in 1946. I cannot find any information on the internet for shares of capital stock of farmers union shipping association.

It sounds like a farmers' cooperative. Did it have more to the name? (e.g. Farmers Union...of City, State)

You may want to try to do more research using just the "Farmers Union" part of the name along with the city & state

If there is a co-op in your area, they may be able to help. Most co-ops have gone through more than one merger over the years

Apparently they merged with the "Equity Cooperative Livestock Sales Association" in the 60's. This association still exists. First link below in info on the merge, second link is the new assocations web page. Try calling up the company at the 2nd link and asking what your shares are worth (or just give them to a broker and they will find it out themselves).
