The brick texture is rough. My kids have found yet another creative method of lowering the value of my home!! If anyone knows of an effective "kid friendly" method (i.e. make them clean up their own mess w/o use of dangerous chemicals or whatever) that would be the most preferable answer. Thanks!

A hardware store sells a grill brush that looks like a tooth brush. Buy a couple of them, hand one to each kid and let them start brushing the brick! I would do it dry because if you wet it ,it becomes mushy ,goes deeper into the grout and is harder to get out. Wait till it's dry and hard that should work. Good luck and happy scrubbing!

The Hasbro company, makers of Play-Doh, don't provide specific instructions for fireplace brick, but they do warn that Play-Doh should NOT be cleaned with HOT water, or any kind of household cleaning solutions.
According to Hasbro, the best way to clean a Play-Doh mess is to brush the surface with a stiff-bristled brush, and then follow up with gentle soap and COLD water, if necessary.
Something tells me the kids might enjoy putting a little elbow grease into the stiff-bristled brush job. Good luck to you!

An old-fashioned scrub brush w/stiff bristles will probably do the trick.

OO this is easy!! Let it dry then use a metal brush on it (suggest grill brush for outdoor grill),, comes right off.

Just get a bucket of warm soapy water and use a scrub brush...that ought to do it.......
