Are they born with the gene to become a genius? Is it from hard work? I am mathematically challenged after the basic four, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

How does Michael Jordan become so good?

There's natural ability and hard work involved. I have 2 math degrees and still dont' consider myself a math genius. The math geniuses of the world are few and far between and I doubt they hang out on yahoo boards.

i dont know about others but for me it always came easily some people just arent that good with numbers and i always had someone to push me but help me alot. and in a way math doesnt really change its still those same basic four but they change it around and find different ways to use it, those are the foundations of all math oh yeah and be a perfectionist the best mathaticians ive met were all somewhat perfectionists so hard work can do wonders

Well then, you sure stand a lousy chance of becoming a math genius. I'm one for my age, but all the above factors apply. Also, you need a good interest in math.

You basicaly practice, and practice untill you get the right answer, but also keep in mind that not everybody gets a mathematical problem alway with the right answers. it takes time and effort ( again just practice)

Good Luck

It's all about trying and motivation. You have to want to be good at math. All the people I know that are bad at math keep telling themselves that very thing. If you don't get something, don't blame it on you being mad at math! Just keep trying until you understand. No one gets EVERYTHING, not even Newton or Euclid.

definitely genetics - if you are challenged with the easy stuff, there's no way you can become a math genius

it's like "either you get it or you don't " is the way I see it with math/science.
