To end the reign of terror. Marat's death didn't help her cause only hurt it.

Charlotte Corday was a supporter of the French monarchy during the time of the French revolution. She supported the moderate Girdondins who were in the national convention. When the Girdonidons were expelled from the convention after meeting in Caen to organize against their opponents like the radical Jacobins (who favored destroying the monarchy), she went to Paris to assassinate one of their chief Jacobin opponents, Jean-Paul Marat. Gaining access to him under the pretext of informing him of what happened at Caen, on July 13, 1793 she stabbed him through the heart while he was in his bath.
Corday was immediately apprehended, and was sentenced to death. She was executed by the guillotine four days after she killed Marat.

Her mission appears to have been to fight against the rule of the Jacobins like Marat, who was a key figure in the Reign of Terror. While killing Marat might have ended the rule of the Jacobins, it did not - instead Marat became a martyr figure and anti-female sentiment grew. In 1794, the Jacobins fell out of power when Robespierre fell. If Marat had survived, perhaps the Jacobins' lust for violence might have continued longer and the French revolution might have ended quite differently.
