How do tanning oils and sprays work to be specific?

hey I have another question on here about tanning but I want to get more specific about tanning oils. Well anyway how do they work.

They cause your skin to be moist and to have a reflective quality-- your skin appears to be shiny. This attracts and intensifies the damage --or tanning-- effect of the sun.
