James Cameron is the founder and director of America's Black Holocaust Museum.

In 1930, Cameron was one of three men charged with the robbery-inspired murder of a white man and the rape of a white woman in Marion, Ind. A day after being arrested, Cameron, along with Thomas Shipp and Abram Smith, was dragged from jail by a white mob, tortured and taken to an oak tree to be lynched. Shipp and Smith were killed, but Cameron, the noose already around his neck, narrowly escaped the same fate. He was 16 years old at the time.

The source below is very graphic relating to the circumstances leading to the lynchings in 1930.
