The US team has a history of lossing in soccer games. Do you think that the problem is a lack of good coaches or funding?

First and foremost, I don't think that the dedication to the game of soccer is strong enough in the States. There isn't anything a coach or more money will help if you don't have players that play the game from the time they learn to walk. Americans have so many things on their plates, that they don't dedicate 100% to any particular sport. In order to be competitive in the world arena, we need to have programs that offer the sport more than four months a year and the players need to dedicate their sporting lives to the game. If they don't, we will continue to be mediocre.

Well, so far the best performance the US national team has made was in the World Cup 2002, where they finish 8th out of 32 teams. That's really good, considering is the US.

The coach that they have is the best the team has had in it's history. I do believe he will be fired if he doesn't get this team ready for the Italy match on Saturday.

The funding is not that big of a deal. You must understand that these athletes playing in the World Cup are not doing it for money, they are doing for the pride and patriotism they have for their country. Not to mention the honor of being selected as on of the 23 man squad.

However, the best way for the US team to do better is for more American stop judging the sport, and become patiotic with the team. Wether you like soccer or not, at least respect the team that is going out and giving it's all.

Unlike the pro athletes that played in the baseball series earlier this year and the players that are on the basketball team that plays against other teams, these soccer players are dying to play for the team. Money is not the issue. Since the majority of the players income comes from their club teams.

GO USA!!

The training grounds are the club teams, and that is something that until very recently the US did not have. We are producing players that are making it in European leagues, but until 10 years ago did not have a regular domestic league. In addition, we're hampered here by the climate, which does not allow one to play soccer all year round, as one can in Europe (try playing soccer in Chicago in January, unlike London or Paris). We also have too many other sports that draw our attention and our best athletes. But we can succeed, as is shown by our women's team, which is one of the best in the world, mainly due to the fact that besides basketball, there aren't any other major team sports for women in the US.

Coaches have to come from the lower ranks, and funding will come with success (anyone else offended that AIG, a presumably American company, sponsors Manchester United?).

Better coaches and more money is not always the solution ,the problem the USA faces is that football (soccer) is not popular and the talent pool does not compare to the rest of the world.Any sport is fuelled by it's fan base, the next generation

It's a combination of a lot of things....but an overlooked point: the best athletes in the US aren't playing soccer. Other sports are more lucrative. Unless the country as a whole takes more of an interest and our top athletes stick with soccer, we will never be ranked as a soccer powerhouse.

I think they need more funding and search for better players, don't get me wrong, we have awesome players, but then we have others like Jhonson that aren't doing anything, we need more funding to get us a better performance in the world cup.

America doesn't deserve to get proper funding because they can hardly play football. They need to go back to their baseball and basketball and SIMMER!!

YES, of course.
The problem is the coach which is chosen for political reasons, not for competency

Americans play like nuncies... why won't they go back to baseball? at least they have the nerve of wearing those silly uniforms and have those silly names as "yankees, dodgers, cubs, white sox and red sox".
