It's just the dumbing down of society and our morals.
This politically correct nonsense needs to be ignored
and not put into practice as liberals would have us do.
Let's get back to traditions that made US great, keep
our kids textbooks teaching reading, writing, and
arithametic instead of sexism, racism and all those
other isms that have cropped up, and lets learn
manners again and treat others as we wish to be
treated.

gosh didn't expect THIS can o worms. thought the fems would hit you hard but they're not even represented here. hmmm.

this may get me in hot water with my fem friends, but here goes.

a very wise old man (one o my mentors) once said (this in my words): this is what is be like. a great change happened in america in the late 1890s. then in 1908 women 'got the vote' (for reasons having nothing to do with women). soon the world was plunged into a world war. america joined that fight. most able bodied men went to europe, many never returned. while the men were away, industry staggered, the need for increased production to keep up with the war brought unprecedented numbers of women into industry. because of various factors many women stayed in industry after the war. these factors are obvious, many men never returned, many who did were disabled. we're talkin about a LOT of guys. also many women simply enjoyed the new freedom. a generation later the same thing happened. meanwhile, this meant that the primary care-giver (mom) was not in the house; the children, unsupervised, were left to the streets; this caused a great decay of the basic traditional family structure. a generation passed, then another. then the bomb. the result of that brought about the baby boom. but the die was cast, three generations of kids on the streets; three generations of adults not used to traditional family roles. i am a product of that so-called boom. in 1968 52% of americans were under the age of thirty. this is important because in those days people who were thirty were very different than the 30 year old of today; much more mature. much like late fourty and fifty year olds of today. no really, it's true. the traditional family structure has changed radically in america. in 1906 the average family consisted of husband and wife, four, five, or even six children or more. often one or more of the parents of the husband or wife lived with them. these grandparents re-enforced the family stucture, mentored the children. now in 2006 it seems the average household consists of one parent and a child or two. that parent must work constantly in a highly competitive marketplace and cannot supervise anything.

so yes there has been a serious decline in moral standards.

No, I think the moral decline is because people can't be bothered spending time with their kids and teaching morals. They just let them go and the morals they learn are from their friends, who are in the same position, the blind leading the blind. I really don't think any men will die because they do the dishes once in a while, my hubby has helped around the house for a long time and I can say for a fact that my two grown children are extremely moral people and the youngest is on the same track. Personally, I go to work to help pay the bills, but its over at 5:00, and I never take it home. We go to every baseball, basketball, soccer and football game the child has, and we get him to every practice. We have his friends over almost every weekend, and still manage to make church most of the time. I honestly don't think I could do more if I stayed home, except watch soap operas and of course, skip some of the sports and movies because we wouldn't be able to afford it.

Not at all. The decline in moral standards is a result of Subjectivism- a modern philosophy which states that there is no such thing as objective truth. It shows itself in lots of ways- moral relativism, situational ethics, the idea that all religions are valid and pretty much the same anyway, the idea that beauty is in the eye of the beholder (how many times have you heard that lie, even from people who ought to know better?). It's a very deeply entrenched outlook in the mind of every human being today, and extremely hard to root out. But believing in it is a disaster which will destroy our civilization eventually, if it's not crushed. I don't say that lightly.

Both parents and media. Television has gone crazy with reality shows, and adult themed shows for teenagers, and the kids are so desperate to emulated them, and parents are idiots to concede to give in to buying designer clothes that latest Brittany Spears, Jessica Simpson, etc is wearing, to buying them cars, without having jobs, no morals or responsibilites to be learned. It will be sad, that the parents will only wake up when they have drained their 401k's, retirements, etc and still supporting a 40 yr old.

What makes you think there has been a decline in moral standards? I'm not so sure they used to be better in the past! At least we don't have slaves in my country now.

i think there r several reasons y. the first is family values and the fact that many kids r raising themselves these days. another reason (i believe) is the traditional role models for children and young adults are themselves splashed across the news with immoral and illegal activities ,,, eg. Corupt Polititions, Teachers molesting their students, Priests sexually abusing parishoners and the list could go on and on.

No, it's because people have moved away from religion and toward the media, which seem to have no moral standard at all.

Perhaps some of it. In general, moral relativism is the disease, of which abandonment of gender roles is only a symptom.
