A tabloid is simply the shape of a newspaper, an alternative to a broadsheet. There are some unethical tabloids, but there are unethical broadsheets as well. Oddly enough, newspapers like the National Enquirer have a certain amount of "ethics". Friends who worked there told me that they will not publish something unless they have an actual source. Of course, sometimes they decide what the story is then go source-shopping until they find someone, a "friend" of the celebrity or whoever, who will say what they want. So, ethically speaking, it's not much. Now the World Daily News, with all the alien two-headed giant pig babies, complete with photographs, meeting President Bush...one does wonder. However, it does liven up the wait in the grocery line. What I hate most are the endless stories about the same six celebrities du jour, not just in the tabloids, but in the magazines as well.

I'm going to disagree and say that yes, tabloids are a form of journalism. They are entertainment, but that doesn't mean some journalistic aptitude had to be used to create the propaganda that surrounds popular culture in our world today.
Journalism is not just reporting on serious, pertinent occurrences in our world. They are different degrees of journalism.
So, yes, tabloids are a form of journalism. Ethical..? Yeah, I would say so. However, that can be disputed... because like interests, ethics vary from person to person.

Ethics in ANY form of journalism? Doesn't exist, mate. All the mainstream media outlets have been bought and sold by Big Business, Big Oil and the military industrial complex. Trust me. I know these things.
