say you were leaving your job for whatever reason, and in your last paycheck you were accidentally overpaid $1000? What would you do? (this did not happen to me, it's just a question).

I wouldn't say anything.

I've been accidently paid more before, my employer ( a big one) tried to get it back, I told them to go away I said I thought it was a bonus and I'd spent it. They didn't have a leg to stand on.

They were not allowed to deduct from my next wages, as it wasn't my fault.

Wait for them to call. Who knows, it might be a severance or bonus or something. Otherwise, enjoy!

Either you are an honest person or you aren't. An honest person would return it. They will find it when they do their accounting procedures anyway.
