Braxton-Hicks contractions. These contractions prepare your body for the hard work of labor and delivery. They soften and thin the cervix (the “exit route” from the uterus through which the baby passes during delivery). These contractions tend to increase in the weeks right before your due date. During these contractions, you may feel tightening of your uterus muscles at irregular intervals or a “squeezing” in your lower abdomen and groin.
Labor contractions
Are regular, lasting about 30-70 seconds each
Get closer together over time
Get progressively stronger over time
Do not stop when you change positions or walk around

My contractions with my first son made me want to sit on the toilet constantly. It wasn't even that I had to go, it just felt better...they were low, below the back bone and came around the front into my lower abdomen.
How was your cervix the last doctors visit, what was the babys station?
What you feel could be pressure from hemorhoids and the baby pushing down. Try drinking about 1/2 gallon ice water over the next couple of hours. See if that makes it better. If your doc has okayed Tylenol, take two. Also, if you can get out and walk, the pains will ease if it is not labor, but will continue and get stronger if it is. The theory is the hips swaying help the uterus contract in real labor.
If you have a panty liner, put it on, this way if you get any changes in your discharge or water leaking you can take it in with you to be tested. Many women will start to see a brown or dark bloody discharge when labor is beginning.
You can also try a warm bath to sooth your lower body. If you get worried or scared you can call Labor and Delivery at the Hospital that you are registered in, see if they have any tips. Never ever hesitate to call your doc either, it's better to be safe than sorry.

sounds like the baby is baring down and you are starting early labour. Have you had a show at all? do you feel like you want to poo? have you got any lower back pains or lower abdominal pains? If you start having regular pains on and off, or your tummy is hardening and coming to like a point and then settling back down again periodically, then you are having contractions and are in labour.
You've probably got plenty of time yet, dont' worry, just make sure your hospital bag is packed. Keep as upright as you can if you are having contractions, as gravity helps. If you're not having contractions then get as much rest as you can, whilst you can, as you will need lots of energy for full labour and delivery. Good luck xxx

It may be the position of the baby or braxton hicks. True labor is that of severe menstrual cramps and are painfull. You may feel like you have to go to the bathroom(number 2). Also pay attention to your discharge if any. Sometimes it will be a little pink in color if labor is beginning. If your are in doubt or the baby hasnt moved in awhile, call your doctor to check up on it. In the late stages of pregnancy all weird feelings and pains develope.Best Wishes for you and your new baby!!!!!!

It could be. I didn't experience it, but I know a lot of women have "back labor" so maybe that's what's causing the pain in your back? Is the pain intermittent, or constant? If it comes and goes at regular intervals, time them, and when they get to 5 minutes, you should pack your bags and go to the hospital. Don't wait for your water to break before you go...even though that's what you see in the movies, most first time mom's water bag does not break beforehand.

Do you know how I was told when you know that your in labour. Try to sleep and if you can sleep through the contractions then your ok. But if you wake up to them then its probably a good idea to have a really hot shower and then goto the hospital
