Did I miss something in history, or didn't after the Civil War did it become official that states do not have the Constitutional right to secede from the Union?
Which implies that Texas cannot secede.

To answer direct and without hesitation YES --Texas by it's state constitution has provision for the state to secede from the union and it does so under the fact that by this same constitution the state is considered an independent Republic

smokingfun, there are people in Hawaii (natives, that don't understand history) trying to seceed, howcome they aren't in prison yet??
Texas is very patriotic, they won't seceed. They were their own country once. The Republic of Texas. Only because USA wouldn't accept them as a state (didn't want bad relations with Mexico, and did not want another slave state). Eventually Texas joined. But as a nation, Texas was bankrupt and could hardly defend themselves.
I never heard of an organization trying to leave Texas, they're patriotic people. Also with a lot of history. They were apart of spain, then mexico, republic of texas, USA, confederacy, USA again.

Yes we can, it is a holdover clause in our State Constitution from the days when Texas was it's own country.
We are the only state in the union to have this clause.
FYI, we are also the only state in the union with the right to fly our state flag at the same height as the US flag.

Most of the Union really wish it would, if it weren't for the economic impact of losing the resources of the land.
Unfortunately, anyone suggesting that Texas secede would be labeled a leader of a terrorist organization trying to "infiltrate our political system to incite civil war."
They'll probably quietly ship him off to Guantanimo, or if he has no immediate family they'll just kill him.

Yes it can. Abrahan Lincoln even suggested that Texas leave the union but not join the Confederacy. Texas can also divide into five states.

we should, texas is the most awesome state in the U.S., even Rob Zombie said so at concert i went to. lol. but yeah, here you're actually allowed to defend yourself. i like that oil idea, especially since texas probably has the most oil refineries in america. I like the sound of that, citizen of the nation of texas. cool. of course texas was a nation, and if a bill and vote were passed, texas could be broken into five different states. of course that's never going to happen.

absolutely, in theory, the constitution as it is written strongly implies that membership in the union is voluntary and as such no state is under any compulsion to remain should the citizens of that state chose to secede they are perfectly within their rights to do so at any time.
