I have the security center set to "install updates automatically and notify me when the product is updated", but the system still notifies me whenever something is ready for download and installation, prompting me to do it manually. Is there a way I can fix this?

Mine does that too. They do that because they dont want you to install it in case something happens.

I think mine updates automatically, but it asks me if I want to install it before it installs it. I think you got rid of something in your startup for mcafee that checks for updates constantly in the background.

Open your mcafee.
Click on Updates.
Click on Configure.
Make sure the option is on the first 1 that will install and download automatically.

If its already on the first option, then choose a different option, then close mcafee.....then go back to configure and click the first option again.

That might help. If it doesnt, then contact me and I can help further.

Edit: I would like to see an article or proof saying that the free scanners are better than mcafee. Ive had mcafee for 4 years and I never had a virus. I also use http://www.pestpatrol.com to scan for spywares and adwares, and I never had an attack of them either.

I dont think the free ones are better. If anything, the paid ones actually have the FUNDS to research and provide us with everyday updates.

Mine updates automatically...maybe it also has to be set on your system. Start//Control Panel/Performance and Maintenance/Sytem...then click on auto updates tab. Maybe it has to be auto from there too.

EDIT: Funny...your first answer uses the same stuff I use for same purposes and I've never had a virus or undetected spyware either. But I also use McAfee Firewall and I'm trying out their antispy. I always have two antispy programs but always at least have pest patrol. But so far...I still like what I originally had. Forget the free stuff. You get what you pay for. I'd rather pay and be protected. It doesn't even cost that much...$30 a year. Big Deal. Cheaper than buying a new computer.

◙ The very best virus scanners are free. Mcafee & Norton Antivirus are mostly hype and won't do as good as the free ones.

◙ Download and install AVG. Use it first and see if it finds any viruses or trojans.

◙ After running AVG go here and runn this one online. No need to install it.

◙ Best spyware remover is Ad Aware. Download and instalkl the free version.
