From my experience (6 years in college) it depends on the person. Some people do better if they study all night and get only 3 hours sleep. Others prefer to study the most they can and get a few more hours sleep. Try different ways and see what suits you best.

Speaking of finals... I'd better get back to studying.

Study about an hour each day, concentrating on the subjects that you need to concentrate on, or alternating subjects. Do a max of two hours of studying a day, taking a break between each hour of about 15-20 minutes. Studying ALOT is not what gets results, make sure you study well, and don't go over things that you know, go over the things that you don't know. And always get the reccomended amount of sleep before a test and eat a very light breakfast, not something with alot of sugar in it, like a yogurt, or I always drink apple juice and that helps, and a granola bar. That, and stay calm during the final, and go with your first instinct when you're not sure. Yes I know it all sounds corny, but it got me through four years of Advanced Placement in high school.

Sleep isn't going to help you much with test results. You need to study until you know the material or until it is time to take the test. Sleep comes after either one of those. Load up on coffee and cigarettes. Once you feel like you will do well, you can sleep- but if the test comes before then, so be it. Just remember, all the sleep in the world won't pass the test.

When I'm sure I've studied enough, I try to get 8 - 9 hours of sleep. However, if I haven't studied enough, I try to study as much as I can and get at least 6.5 hours of sleep. It's better to be mentally prepared on the exam and be able to BS your way through. If it's a multiple choice exam, then you could possible skip a few more hours of sleep because you can find clues on the exam, but if it's an essay or short answer exam where you actually have to think hard, you should get at least 6.5 hours of sleep.

Like others have said, it also sometimes depends on the person.

Sleep! But don't study all at once. Maybe do a lot of studying working through all the material until about two nights before, then skim through old tests or reviews that the teacher has given you the last couple days.

If you have certain strengths of knowledge in certain areas of the test then study that which you are weak in first. Study hard and get 8 hours of sleep. Without the proper amount of rest the brain won't have the chance to rest and retain that which you have worked so hard to learn. Good luck and good grades!

For me if i sleep more i seem to do better. Normally I dont study at all and still maintain an A average in the class but that might be because i always pay attention to my teacher. If your a person who doesnt pay attention as much i would say studying more would be a better option

Honestly you should study a little bit each night until the test because you will retain more information. If you try to cram you will actually remember less, but with less sleep your memory will suffer. If you study each night and still are having trouble remembering then you should use associations between words and ideas.

Even if you studied more than anyone else, and you don't get a proper sleep the night before the exam, your mark will likely not reflect the amount of work you did.

No matter how long or hard you study, if your brain doesn't get enough sleep it won't process information correctly. Study as long as you can and still get 8 hours of sleep.

Good luck.
