as they won't fly as close to the car - is this true?

I don't mean if there are drivers approaching in the opposite direction! I'm not that reckless... I drive on country roads with very little traffic and no street lights.

So for most of the time, I have to have my high beams on anyway.

No, that's probably not true. Moths are attracted to lights, so if you were driving slowly, the moths would go to your lights. However, if you're driving fast, it doesn't matter how bright your lights are; the moths aren't fast enough to go to your lights if attracted or go away from your lights, so if they're in your way, you'll hit them.

The only reason you should have your lights on high beam is if there is fog or really heavy rain at night. Otherwise, you will distract or blind drivers heading towards you, and that may cause accidents. Do you care more about people or moths?

It is true that moths are attracted to light. However, they can't fly fast enough to catch a moving car. They just happen to be in the air at night and you run into them.

Unless you were driving very slowly the moths wouldn't have time to be attracted to your headlights, no matter how bright. They would only have a few seconds to respond under normal circumstances.

Who would worry about the moths ?
If you care about moths, don't drive !
If you care about your fellow road-users, don't use full-beam !

Don't use your hi beams unless your in the country with no one around. It's illegal otherwise. Someday you'll piss someone off enough that they'll take it out on you.
and No it's not true.

well the brighter they are the more moths will be attracted to them, but it depends... if you hate moths then make it brighter, if you like to keep your car free from moth guts then keep it on low.
